Hope to see you soon!
The Roots and Gold Dust Genealogical Society is a non-profit organization that promotes family history research. Our mission is to gather, preserve and publish local genealogical and historical data, and to aid members in compiling their family histories.
Specifically, the primary purposes of this society are to create and foster interest in genealogy, help individuals trace their ancestors through family research, and once found, offer guidance for preparing and writing their family histories. We achieve these goals through literary and educational tools, including guest lectures, discussions, workshops and access to genealogical source material.
Additionally, because of our shared interest in family history research, the Placerville Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints provides a meeting room for the Society. In turn, we support the collections of the Family History Center with book and material donations and volunteers.
Each month the Roots and Gold Dust Genealogical Society features a speaker at its free monthly meeting. The group meets the third Tuesday of the month at 1 p.m. in the Primary Room of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 3275 Cedar Ravine Road, Placerville.
You do not need to be a member to attend. Topics have covered various aspects of genealogy, ancestor research and DNA testing. Some recent topics include: “Making the Most of Your DNA Results,” and “Finding That Elusive Genealogy Book.”
November meeting dates vary, and there is no December meeting.
Membership in the society is $15 for an individual and $22 for a couple, which renews each January.
Membership fees support the Society’s education programs and collaboration with the Family History Center.
